Week of 9/21-9/25

This will be the last week for the fun run! The nssd112 fun(d) is Sept 26th at 8am at Ravinia Festival


5th grade will be doing the fun(d) Tuesday and Friday. The rest of the week 5th grade will be doing team building.

3rd and 4th grade will be doing the fun(d) Tuesday and Friday. The rest of the week will be playing shookball/flickerball.


2nd grade will continue to focus on soccer and kickball

1st grade will continue to focus on catching and throwing

Tomorrow is the Fun run for 3rd-5th grade

For all 5th graders.. any 5th grader that emails me (djesselson@nssd112.org) with 1) Your 1-2 goals for the year in PE class and 2) Your thoughts on our team building activities so far will get Olympics points. The more thought that you put into your goals and thoughts the more Olympic Points you will receive. I want to start a conversation with all of you about where you think you are in your leadership development.

Week of 9/8-9/11

Coming up this week...


5th grade will still be focusing on team building. If any fifth graders comes in with the definition of what team building means to them they will receive 250 olympic points.

3rd and 4th will be focusing on shookball/flickerball this week

2nd grade will be working on kicking and soccer

1st grade will be working on throwing and catching

Week of 8/31-9/4

Hope everyone has a nice first week back at school.

This week Olympic coaches will still come in Monday-Thursday in the morning, unless Mr. J says something different.

Starting this week 3rd-5th will be participating in the Sherwood fun(d) Run every Thursday in the month September. We do this one to prepare students for participating in the actual fun(d) run held Saturday, September 26th at 8am at Ravinia Festival. We also do this to teach students how to pace themselves and gradually build up endurance.



5th grade this week will be working on team building
3rd and 4th grade will be working on flickerball/shookball
2nd grade will be working soccer/kickball
1st grade will be working on locomotor review and throwing and catching

Welcome Back 8/25-8/28

Welcome Back Sherwood students and families!

Mr. J and I are really looking forward to this school year. We have a lot of fun things planned for the first week.

We are also getting excited to start our Sherwood Olympics and getting ready for the District 112 Fun(d) Run!

May 18th - May 22nd


This week K-2 will be working different skills in soccer and having fun playing a game called "World Cup".

Grades 3-5 will be finishing up track and field this week. Once their grade is done they will be start one of these three options: kickball, soccer or ultimate frisbee.

May 11th-May 15th

Good Morning!

This week K-2 will be working on different games to prepare for Field Day which is not very far away!

Grades 3-5th will be finishing up the rest of their track and field units.

Below is a link to a flyer for the Youth Track and Field Event hosted by Mr. Buti and the Highland Park District. Many students participated last year and really enjoyed it. It is open to all 4th-8th with special invite for third grades from Mr. J and Mrs. Cook.

Week of April 27th-May 1

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! We are looking forward to going outside this week for P.E. if the weather corporates.


This week the students will be working on the long jump, high jump and 50 yard dash!

Weather permitting Mr. J will be take grades 3-5th grade outside to finish the long jump. If the weather is bad students will be working on the high jump. Grade 1-2 will be working on different activities that involve jumping.

Mrs. Cook will be taking grades 1st-5th grade outside to start the 50 yard dash. The point of all grades participating in the 50 yard dash is to help the students develop proper running form and trying to start setting goals for themselves. If the weather is bad the students will be working on jumping in the gym with Mr. J's classes.



Just a quick reminder 5th grades P.E. project is due May 22nd! If you have any questions or concerns please come see Mr. J and I or e-mail us.

Week of April 4/20-4/24

Grades 3-5th grade will be working on high jump, long jump, shot put and the 50 yard dash depending on weather.

Grade 1st-2nd will be working on developing their running and jumping skills.

Kindergarden will start learning games they will play during field day!



Tuesday, April 21st fifth grade will be going on a low ropes course in Northbrook with Mr. J and I! We can't wait! Pictures will soon follow!

Week of April 13th-17th


~This week 5th grade will be having the Angle Program come in during their P.E. time.

**5th grade please turn in your permission slip to Mr. J by Wednesday, April 15th.**

~1st-4th grade will be working on different events in track and field.

~Mrs. Cook is currently finishing up sprints with the students and starting the agility run test. If you would like more information on the agility run test, there is a link located below.

Week of March 23rd-27th


This week grades 2nd-5th grade finished up fitness testing and then enjoyed fun P.E. games.

Grade K-1st worked on keeping their heart rate up by doing many different movement games.

The Week of March 9th-13th



Mr. J and I hope everyone had a great weekend.


This week PARCC Testing is taking place for grades 3rd-5th.

In Physical Education class, we will be playing different games that involve throwing, catching and game strategies.


Please remember to bring your gym shoes to school!


Students in 2nd- 5th grade will be receiving a sheet to bring home about when they will be taking the pacer test.

March 17th, 2015 will be PACER TEST DAY for 2nd-5th grade.

The week of March 2nd- March 6th

This week will be the final week of floor hockey/basketball.


3rd-5th will be finish getting tested on each skill in their respective unit.

1st-2nd will be working on throwing and catching

K- will be working on playing with the parachute!!



Coming up next week we will be playing different "gym games" because of PARCC Testing.
