Week of 12-9-13


Hope everyone is staying warm in this cold and snowy weather. Please make sure if you are wearing boots to school you remember to pack gym shoes for P.E. Class.


Mr. J and I will be doubling the entire month of December.  We will be focusing on climbing this month. The students will have the opportunity to climb the rock wall and focus on different other kinds of climbs.

Students will be assessed in every climb in the gym. All we ask is that you try your best!

Sorry for the break in posting. These last few weeks have been very busy for the P.E. department. We learned a lot of new and exciting things during the teacher institute day.

5th Grade Leadership Survey

This is your first Mr J PE assignment. Please click on the following link and fill out the short LEADERSHIP survey.  All complete surveys, done well will receive 30 Olympic points. All partial surveys and not done very well will get partial credit. Students that do not do this survey will lose 30 Olympic Points!  If you need help or internet access please come find me and I'll give you a homework club pass.

Week of 10/21

Some exciting news to report. Mr. J and I have completed our training on the climbing wall and in a few weeks we will begin climbing with grades 1-5.

5th grade remember to bring in a quote about teamwork, or that is inspirational or motivational to class Tuesday or Wednesday. Make sure to have your name, the quote and the name of the person who said the quote.


Even though it is becoming colder, make sure still stay active. You can also work on your skills of playing catching, try to take a family walk at the track in highland park or play creative games to get your heart rate up.


Also this week, we hope to post some pictures of what is going on in P.E. class

In 3rd through 5th grade students will be finishing up fitness testing with Mr. J and start team building.

Week of 9/23

This week 3-5th in Mrs. Cook's classes focused on the rules of a new game called Tchoukball. Each student will have a quiz the week of Oct 7-11th. 

Section 5.3, 4.3 and 3.2 and 3.1 will have their quiz on Monday the 7th
Section 4.2 will have their quiz on Wednesday the 9th
Section 5.2, 4.1 and 3.3 will have their quiz on Thursday the 10th
Section 5.1 will have their quiz on Friday the 11th.


Here you will find the answer to the quiz. Remember to study them. There will be 10 questions. 9 are true and false and 1 is writing.


Answer for Tchoukball Quiz


1. 7 players on the court for each team
2. Only allowed three steps
3. The zone you can’t enter is called the forbidden zone.
4. The nets are actually called frames
5. Offense can score when the ball hits the frame and lands on the ground outside the forbidden zone
6. Defense can score if the offense misses the frame completely or if they offense hits the ball off the frame and it lands out of bounds
7. The defense is not allowed to block, intercept or guard
8. You can score on both frames
9. This is an international sport
10. List three sports that are like Tchoukball

In Mr. J's class, the 3-5th grade has been focusing on flickerball. They will continue this next week.


Grades K-2 in both Mrs. Cook and Mr.J's classes having been working on throwing and catching. I hope all students will work hard over the weekend practicing their catching and throwing!

Week of 8/26


It the first week of school, and boy is it a hot one! This week in P.E. we have focused on listening activities with K-1 students and in grades 2nd-5th we have been participating in new and old P.E. games.

Next week, we look forward to starting the fun(d) on Tuesday for grades 3-5. This will allow the students to have ample practice to prepare for the NSSD112 Fun(d). A quick reminder for all 3rd-5th students make sure to wear appropriate shoes for running, try to pick an outfit that will keep you cool and please bring a water bottle with you to P.E. on Tuesday.

Grades K-2 will be participating in different fitness activities.

- If your child needs to sit out of P.E. please provide a parent note
-If it needs to be more than 3 days a doctor note is needed
